Location Awareness - Love it or Hate it?
I love location aware applications… Simply because they provide more relevant information and make my life easier. Locale is one of those clever ways of using your location. Based on where your mobile phone is or in what state it is, it’s behavior will change.
I hate location aware applications… Simply because they know where you are. And could be telling somebody else.
Once again, there is the divide between privacy and usefulness/fun. Facebook and the like are only fantastic because people share their (personal) information. It is only by aggregating information about moving vehicles that interesting traffic information can be collected…
I think the current equation goes as follows:
Computing Power + Data = New Insights
The question that still need to be answered is who gets which benefits from them & to what goal they are used.
